Your tour of one of the most fascinating countries in the world begins in Beijing, the capital of the People’s Republic of China. An English-speaking guide will meet you at the airport, drive you to your hotel, and help you check in

Your adventure starts in Tiananmen Square, the heart of Beijing and the largest public space on earth. Step back in time as you pass through the Gate of Heavenly Peace and enter the Forbidden City, home to the Imperial Courts of the Ming and Qing Dynasties for more than 500 years. The Forbidden City is an enormous complex of perfectly preserved palaces, temples, magnificent squares and formal gardens. You’ll stroll down cobblestone paths once known only to the Emperor’s most intimate advisors, visit the private chambers of Imperial concubines and see stunning collections of priceless art, furnishings, and jewelry. After lunch you’ll visit the Summer Palace, a fairyland of pagodas, pavilions and stone bridges on the outskirts of the city; and cruise on the Kunming Lake. Then you’ll visit the Temple of Heaven, one of China’s most photographed attractions. This ornate wooden structure was where the “Sons of Heaven”, as the Chinese Emperors were known, worshiped the gods and prayed for good harvests. It is the largest temple complex in China and the lovely park surrounding the ancient tower is a popular spot for morning Tai Chi. Tonight you’ll sample the delicious local cuisine at a neighborhood restaurant and then enjoy Peking Opera.
Day 4 Beijing B,L,D,
Today you’ll start your day by visiting the iconic “Beijing 2008 Olympic Center”. After taking pictures of the Bird’s Nest and Water Cube, you’ll leave the bustle and traffic of Beijing behind and journey through the countryside to see one of the Wonders of the World – The Great Wall. There will be plenty of time to walk along a portion of this 3700 mile long marvel or to simply sit and contemplate the wonders of China’s past. After lunch you’ll visit the massive tomb complex of the Ming Emperors where you’ll walk along the “Sacred Way” passing between pairs of huge stone sculptures. If time permits, you’ll visit a jade carving factory and observe the skilled artisans at work as they create intricate designs.
Day 5 Beijing/Xining B,L,D,
This morning you’ll fly to Xining, capital of Qinghai province. Visit Kimblum (Taer) Lamasery – one of the six great monasteries of Tibet Buddhism and a UNESCO site.
Day 6 Xining B,L,D,
In the morning, you will visit the Provincial Museum, then to the residence of General Ma Bufang – a warlord in the 1940's. You will also tour the Great Mosque which has a history of 600 years. This evening, you will board the Tibet Express start your adventure to Tibet.
Day 7 Express train to Lhasa B,L,D,
Be awakened to the Early Morning Sunrise on the train this morning to take breathtaking pictures just as if the pictures had been taken from an airplane, with the fire-red sun in the dark blue-streaked bright orange sky. Throughout the day, you will see: Kunlun Mountain – known as the ancestor of many mountains in the region. Kekexili - “paradise for wild animals” Couna Lake – the highest fresh water lake in the world and a holy lake for Tibetans. Damshung - “Gate of Northern Tibet”. You will arrive at Tibet in the evening. Check in your hotel.
Day 8 Lhasa B,L,D,
Today's highlight is the magnificent Potala Palace, the former residence of the Dalai Lama. Later in the afternoon you will go to Norbuglinkha, the Jewel Park and Summer Palace for the Dalai Lama. This evening you’ll enjoy dinner along with a Tibetan Culture Dance Show.
Day 9 Lhasa B,L,D,
The morning begins with a visit to the Jokhang Monastery (built in 647 A.D.), Tibet's holiest shrine; followed by a walk along Barkshor street, the Tibetan Bazaar, where you will be able to shop for souvenirs and other items. In the afternoon, you will visit the Sera Monastery – the third largest Monastery in Tibet and the only one where you can hundreds of monks performing chanting at the temple courtyard under the trees in the afternoon.
Day 10 Lhasa / Chengdu B,L,D,
Today you will fly to Chengdu, capital of Sichuan province and fifth most populous city in China. After check in your hotel, you will take an excursion to Dujiangyan; an ancient water irrigation project constructed around 250 BC that still provides water to Chengdu to this day. Dujiangyan is a UNESCO world heritage site.

This morning's highlight is the visit to the Giant Panda Breeding Center, where you’ll lovely pandas up close. Then you will tour Sanxingdui, a mysterious ancient city that is home to artifacts dating back to 11 and 12 B.C. It is another world heritage site. If time permits, you will visit local tea houses and Pavilion of River View Garden.
Day 12 Chengdu/Shanghai B,
Today you will fly to Shanghai – a cosmopolitan, bustling city. You tour guide will meet you at the airport and escort you to your hotel. The rest of the day is free to explore Shanghai on your own.
Day 13 Shanghai B,L,D,
Today you’ll revisit Shanghai’s past as you stroll along the Bund, the city’s lively waterfront, and see the remains of the banks and other colonial institutions of the 19th century. You’ll visit Yuyuan Garden which is located in the old part of the city. You will also visit the fascinating Shanghai Museum to see artifacts from every period of China’s past. After dinner, you’ll attend a thrilling acrobatic show.
Day 14 Shanghai B,L,
Today’s highlight is a visit to Shanghai World Expo. (May 1 – Oct. 31). Before and after Shanghai Expo (Before May 1 and after Oct. 31), you will take an excursion to Zhujiajao, a well-preserved, traditional river town with lovely water views, ancient arched stone bridges and elegant gardens. After lunch, you’ll return to Shanghai and visit Jade Buddha Temple. The rest of the day is free at leisure.
Day 15 Shanghai B,
Bid farewell to Shanghai. You will be driven to the airport for your flight home.
